First 5 Santa Barbara County

First 5 Santa Barbara County is committed to early identification of children prior to entry to kindergarten and has implemented developmental, social emotional and maternal depression screenings across funded programs.  Funded programs screen, refer for further assessment and follow up to ensure those qualifying for service access those services.

First 5 has partnered with Santa Barbara County’s Public Health-CHDP program in leading  the charge to develop a countywide system for screening that would include use of standardized screening tools, coordination of screening results, training and technical assistance, outreach to medical providers, universal referral forms, and piloting in solo practitioner’s office, clinics, preschool settings and other agencies/programs that are interested in providing screenings.
